シーン 1
Thanks for joining us right off the mound — congratulations on reaching the third round. Thank you.
There's a lot from today's game we could cover, but let's talk about that sixth inning on the mound.
Kobayashi battled hard and kept it to a one-run game before handing things off to me, so I took the mound determined to shut them down no matter what.
With no outs recorded yet, what were you feeling about the stadium's atmosphere and how the game was unfolding?
The momentum was starting to swing toward the other team, and feeling that made me pitch with real determination.
My teammates backed me up with a solid double play, and that made me genuinely happy.
You opened with a strikeout — what pitch were you going for, and what result were you picturing as you started that at-bat?
I took the mound wanting to change the stadium's mood with one pitch, and I felt a strikeout there would really shift the momentum — it worked out great.
Yes, I think I managed to shut down the leadoff batter. Your third pitch hit 156 km/h — did you know that in the moment?
I didn't see it myself, but they told me when I got back to the dugout. It's a record no one had ever hit before in the long history of spring and summer Koshien.
Now that it's sunk in, how do you feel? — Honestly, I think it's fine for me to just be happy about it. Does it feel like everything you worked toward this summer has paid off?
Well, one thing paying off doesn't mean I can get complacent — there's still a long way to go, so I want to stay focused and prepare for what's next instead of settling here.
That pitch changed the mood, and a few innings later it led to the big rally in the ninth — it really feels like the ace's drive carried the whole team, doesn't it?
I do think that spirit carried through — Yokohama High has always placed huge importance on building rhythm from our defense.
Our coach really drilled that into us before this game too, so I trusted him, and sure enough the fielders kept the rhythm going and turned things around for us.
Going forward, I want to keep bringing good momentum to the team as a pitcher.
As Yokohama High's greatest strength — what's your ideal? What kind of pitcher is, to you, the best pitcher there is?
A pitcher who can win games for the team — that's number one to me. You've taken another step toward your goal. What growth will you show us through the rest of the tournament?
I really want to make sure I help the team win, and ultimately tie it all together into our goal of becoming champions.
Looking forward to what's ahead. — I'll give it everything. Thank you very much. — Thank you.
That was pitcher Ota.
